Zimt (extended)

For one evening at echoraum, Ensemble Zimt expands into a sextet with their guest, exceptional trumpeter Franz Hautzinger, forming a sonic organism that continuously generates new voices, conjuring an imaginary invisible orchestra that fills the space with sound, noise, surprising sequences of tones and melodies, and other spectral voices.

These six musicians have been exploring the vast world of music for many years in various configurations—as Chesterfield (Castelló/Stangl), here comes the sun (Romen/Fagaschinski/Schneider), and Duchamp Default (Castelló/Romen/Stangl/Schneider). Together once again, they embark on a quest for the precious treasures of hidden, never-before-heard sounds. Gentle contemplation, sharpness, longing and danger, disparate spheres connected, acoustic instrumentarium reflecting digital lifeworlds.

What particularly unites Castelló and Stangl is their passion for experimentation and their drive to traverse largely unexplored sonic territories. These two artists defy conventional musical categorization. Known for their distinctive musical vision, the duo follows a stylistic path that leads them through genres as diverse as new music, electronics, improvisation, and jazz. Barbara Romen and Gunter Schneider have collaborated closely for many years, proving themselves sensitive partners in various ventures between composed and free music, working with and creating unheard sounds. Berlin clarinetist Kai Fagaschinski has made Vienna his second home through numerous collaborations and is renowned as a subtle and distinctive sonic explorer with remarkable endurance.
